HIKING IN WINTERBERG

 

Hiking in the Winterberg area? Yes, because Winterberg is not just fun when there’s snow. Also in the autumn, spring and summer you can enjoy the fresh air in this mountainous landscape. Winterberg is located in the German Sauerland, the region with the most marked hiking trails in all of Germany at every level.

Winterberg is the highest town in this area and is therefore also known as the roof of Sauerland with many beautiful views, dense forests, green mountain meadows and typical German half-timbered houses. There is also a great chance to see deer, foxes, raccoons and other animals. paths are easy to walk on and the routes are well signposted. Specific hiking maps are available at the tourist office.

Rothaarsteig

 

One of the most well-known hiking routes is the Rothaarsteig with a length of 154.69 km. The word Steig means steep path or mountain trail and runs largely through the Rothaar mountains. The route starts in Brilon and goes south-west through Winterberg, ending in the Hessian town of Dillenburg.

Winterberger Hochtour

 

There is also the Winterberger Hochtour. This special route starts and ends at the Kahler Asten and runs over the highest mountains of the Hochsauerland, a length of 80 km.

On returning from the tour, you can enjoy a drink of the same name in the Dorf Alm located right next to ‘Die Zwei Löwen’.
